New York City Corporation Tax Reform Proposal

Following in the footsteps of New York State’s corporation tax reform, which for the most part became effective for tax years that began on or after January 1, 2015, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has now proposed similar changes to NYC corporation tax laws which would be retroactive to January 1.

NYS Sales Tax Policy Change - Use of Scaffolding on Capital Improvement Projects

New York State Department of Taxation and Finance has recently come out with a new policy memorandum TSB-M-14(15)S effective January 1, 2015, on the application of sales and use tax laws when it involves temporary scaffolding that is used in capital improvement construction projects. Temporary protective pedestrian walkways and temporary hoisting systems are also referred to collectively as scaffolding systems, and are included in this new policy.

New California Tax Credit

There is a new tax credit offered to business in California, businesses planning to expand in California or planning to start-up in California called the California Competes Tax Credit.
Any business can apply for the California Competes Tax Credit. The credit is available statewide to all industries. However, while there are no geographic or sector-specific restrictions, the purpose of the California Competes Tax Credit is to attract and retain high-value employers in California that provide their employees good wages and benefits.
